Carn an Fhidhleir & An Sgarsoch

This route is very long, so knowing my schedule and aware of days ahead shortening quickly I could make the route now or wait till late spring. To have spare time I decided to start one hour before the sunrise; I’d known part of the path going to White Bridge. Despite the wind and early hour it was surprisingly warm. For the first four hours I was just going to the base of the hills – it was really boring… Finally I reached the end of the path at the base of Carn an Fhidhleir and started climbing across muddy and wet eastern slope, with the wind getting stronger and the clouds covering the top. It was agonisingly slow ascent… Eventually I got the summit just to see nothing because of mist. Shortly afterwards I moved southward against the wind to a depression between two hills. In the meantime the clouds vanished and the sun was shining; but visibility was rather poor because of the haze. At 13:45 I reached the summit of An Sgarsoch and after rather short break I went down across the northern long slope towards the path – the ground was even worse than the one I’d climbed earlier. In some ways I said ‘good bye’ to Linn of Dee – there are no more routes left I haven’t made from it.
